A compost bin heater helps your composter to stay active through a cold winter.
Active bacteria and micro organisms inside a composter can increase the temperature of the compost up to 70°C. In this temperature the biomass decomposes quickly and the organisms simultaneously destroy all or most of the seeds and soil-borne diseases. The temperature outside the compost bin greatly affects the wellbeing and activity of the organisms.
The heater element is inside a stainless steel tube. The element is surrounded by quartz crystals, which help distribute the heat evenly on the surface of the tube.
The Sulana® VG180W heater is energy efficient: a thermostat controls the heater by turning it on at 30°C and off at 40°C. The heater can also be unplugged when the compost bin is working as intended. The micro organisms in the compost are then able to maintain an adequate temperature. A turned-off heater does not consume electricity.
