A compost bin heater helps your composter to stay active through a cold winter.
Active bacteria and micro organisms inside a composter can increase the temperature of the compost up to 70°C. In this temperature the biomass decomposes quickly and the organisms simultaneously destroy all or most of the seeds and soil-borne diseases. The temperature outside the compost bin greatly affects the wellbeing and activity of the organisms.
In this heater, the heating element is inside an aluminium tube.
Sulana® compost bin heater is designed to be energy efficient: A thermostat controls the heating by turning it on when the temperature drops to 25°C and turns off when the temperature reaches 40°C. You can also manually unplug the heater when the organisms have become active and the temperature has risen enough. The organisms can then maintain a proper temperature without help.
